Blow the man down is an old sea shanty originated in the Western Ocean sailing ships. German emigrants maybe made the tune, but it is more likely derived from an African-American song called “Knock a Man Down”. The whip ruled sea life in old days, and the captains of the ships often had a reputation for being both hard and brutal. When a sailor said that a man was blown down, it meant that he was knocked to the ground. “Blow the Man Down” is a song about the unfair beating of sailors aboard these old sailing ships. Here you find this old shanty arranged for 4 guitars. 2 pages.
